Yemen Corporate Governance Guidlines
The Yemeni Corporate Governance Guidelines is the culmination of a two-year project between the Yemeni Businessmen Club (YBC) and the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), funded by the Middle East Partnership Initiative of the U.S. State Department. In March 2008, YBC and CIPE established the Yemeni Corporate Governance Task Force, which includes more than 20 key stakeholders from the government, business community, academia, and media with the purpose of developing the voluntary guidelines. After two years of collaborative work, the Task Force produced a Yemeni-specific framework for corporate governance standards, which includes sections on family-owned businesses and the banking sector. The release of the Yemen guidelines marks a major achievement by providing the Yemeni private sector with a roadmap to enhance transparency and accountability, improve growth, and ensure sustainability. The guidelines are based upon internationally-accepted OECD principles and draw upon models developed in other countries in the Middle East.
